Here's a URL for a really great site that helped me with my first attempt. The author, Janet Rehfeldt, has great step-by-step instructions with pictures on how to tackle the stitches.
First rule of crocheting, keep good notes.
My latest scarf design: Tire Tread.
Yarn: Patons Classic Merino Wool Winter White and Black
Hook: H, 5mm for the white cable, and F, 3.75mm for the black edging.
Beginning Chain: Ch 10 for the cream insert, but I had to modify Rehfeldt's directions slighty to center the cable correctly. Each side is sandwiched by five or six rows of single crochet in black.
Tips: I would recommend purchasing a cable needle to help with this pattern as you're twisting and turning your treble crochets. I'll add a later post showing how to use a cable needle, as I couldn't find any directions on the web.
Completion: About 3 days of intermittent crocheting.

What a cool scarf! It looks exactly like tiremarks. :-)

Luv the pattern!
That is awesome! I haven't done cables before and recently decided to look it up. I doubt the picture does the scarf justice.
i LOVE this.
Thanks Emily!
