Eye of the Beholder

Woo hoo!

A crocheted table runner that I made is featured in an Etsy Treasury called Blue and Green. Etsy Treasuries are member-curated lists of items selected on a theme.

The table runner is single crochet in a rectangular shape with rounded corners (SC increase at each corner).

Etsy is a great place to buy crochet patterns for unique items such The Lovely Crow's baby galoshes or vintage crochet patterns from VintageEtsian like this cute pet bed.

Most shop owners deliver the patterns as a pdf by email.  The patterns provide step-by-step instructions and some shop owners even offer video tutorials.

Just stop by Etsy and search for crochet patterns.

A Stitch in Time...

Ok, I've finally gotten around to working with crocheting a border around a piece of cardstock (See Life on the Edge post).

Lolly Chops' great video tutorial shows you how it's done.  However, I'm not big on sewing and found the process of sewing a blanket stitch a little time consuming.  If you're like me, you just want to sit and crochet.  So I've modified Lolly's instructions to create a sew-free border.

Modified Crochet Border
Punch holes in your paper following Lolly's directions.
Use a small lace crochet hook (I used size #1/2.75mm).
Place yarn in back of first hole.
Insert hook through the hole and pull yarn through hole.
Leave a loop on the hook and the hold the tail on the backside.
With fisrt loop on the hook, insert hook through the next hole.
Bring up second loop through the hole.
Yarn over (YO) and complete the first single crochet (SC).
Knot the tail at the back of your paper to secure the first SC.
Insett hook into next hole, YO and complete second SC.
Continue until you complete the border.
Slip stitch in the first SC to close.
Knot the remaining tail on the back.

Here's a comparison of the two methods.

Left is with blanket stitch.  Right is without blanket stitch.
